AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND IS NOT FOR SALE PROTEST

This protest is about demonstrating public opposition to privatisation and the selling off of our country's assets, natural resources, land & public services. Most New Zealanders don't want our public assets, resources and farm land sold to private investors. It is not in our interests to put our future in the hands of a few large companies and billionaires whose primary goal is to make a profit for themselves.

Why must we act now?

While more than 80% of New Zealanders are opposed to asset sales, the National led Government claims they have a mandate from the people.

Currently the Government is in the process of selling off many of our State Assets to private investors. At the same time the Government is laying-off 1000s of public workers as it cuts services and outsourcing the running of public services including schools, healthcare, social welfare, prisons and ACC to private companies. These companies want to make a profit which will come at our cost. Adding to this, the Government is allowing large blocks of productive farm land to be purchased by foreign investors.

Additionally the Government is aggressively pushing for increased mining. Large areas of land are being opened up for oil drilling and mining including conservation land & National Parks, private land, and the foreshore & seabed.

Will this campaign succeed?

It will if enough people support it. When the government announced that it was going to mine conservation land 50,000 people marched in Auckland forcing the government to scrap the policy. There are currently demonstrations being organised around the country, while alongside this campaign a Hikoi to Parliament is being planned for April 24th ending in Wellington May 10th. Come to the demonstration on Saturday April 28th and help put pressure on the Government to abandon the privatisation agenda.
